The wire ran hot on AI this week. Of the twenty highest-pain signals it caught, most cluster around one theme: people want AI that does a specific job, and the tools they have keep missing it. Google kept bolting connected apps onto AI Mode, the EU ordered Android to open up to rival AI apps, and on Bluesky the plainest signal of all kept repeating, some version of "I wish there was an app that...". Underneath the noise, developers on Hacker News and Stack Exchange are still wrestling with the unglamorous backend problems every one of those apps will have to solve. Reddit did not answer our sweep this week, so its usual "somebody make this" threads are absent from the ledger below. Everything here is dated, sourced, and linked. Read it as a lead sheet, not a forecast.

How this is graded: every signal is scored 0 to 10 on engagement, recency, and complaint density, the same heuristic the live wire uses. Some weeks a source does not answer the sweep; when that happens it is simply absent, never faked.
